Betty Bender

An Inspiring, Energetic Speaker, Facilitator and Consultant In Communication and Emotional Intelligence

Have you ever met anyone who attended a one-room school and yet set her sights on the world? Well, you’re about to in Betty Bender. Her roots may be in rural North Dakota, but her branches have spread far and wide since then.

Betty has taught music to school kids in Okinawa; co-authored a best-selling book; written, produced and performed in hundreds of radio and TV shows; developed training videos for Boeing; and eventually started her own communications company. Betty has facilitated workshops for and spoken to thousands of people in organizations throughout the U. S. and Canada. She develops and presents training programs, facilitates meetings, gives keynote speeches and provides one-on-one coaching.

Betty's clients range from business and industry to non-profits of all kinds and include Boeing, Hewlett Packard, the Environmental Protection Agency, PACCAR, Washington State University, Regence Blue Shield, Battelle NW, the U. S. Senate, the Girl Scouts, Weyerhaeuser, Texaco, Qwest, Ore-Ida Potatoes, Seattle Management Association, Sisters of Providence Health Care, The Spokesman Review, Lucent Technologies, the U. S. Forest Service, and Preston, Gates and Ellis.

One of Betty's biggest loves is music. She plays the guitar and piano, sings, and plays alto saxophone in community bands. She has volunteered to teach music in the public schools through the Seattle Symphony's "Musical Keys" program. She has also served on the boards of directors of the Seattle Youth Symphony and Seattle's Multi-Faith Works.

A self-proclaimed "life-long learner," Betty has a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree. She has done extensive professional development in the areas of communications, curriculum design, personal growth, training facilitation, and consulting.

Betty's greatest strength lies in her ability to translate abstract concepts into everyday, meaningful language and results-oriented action plans. She is funny, she is articulate and inspiring, and most of all, in the words of a former employer, "She demonstrates a sense of caring, an essential dimension of her work."
